17 May Francis Derwin records another win in Cavan
Athlone Young Rider Francis Derwin is certainly proving to be a dominate force in the GAIN Alltech National Grand Prix league this year, as he recorded another win in the series today at Cavan Equestrian (15th May). Riding Killerisk Can Ya, he lodged the winning round of clear in 40.63 seconds. This combination have claimed victory in the third round in Galway and also fifth in Portmore. Last weekend, Derwin took the win in aboard AHG Whiterock Cruise Down.Owned by Francis Derwin Snr and bred by Maura Counihan, Killerisk Can Ya, is a ten-year-old gelding by Can Ya Makan and out of the Mermus R sired dam R Umonia 14.Young riders are certainly featuring strongly in this league, as they claimed four of the top seven places.
A total of 54 combinations took on the Stuart Clarke designed course, and from those 12 booked their place in the jump-off. Half of those combinations then went on to delivered double clears against the clock.Last of the double clears in a time of 53.03 and accounting for sixth place was Westmeath rider, Joyce Veld and Corraghoe Bounce. The 10-year-old gelding was bred by Patrick Smith and is owned by Miley Dunning. He is by Lux Z and out of the Cruising sired dam, Corraghoe Tiger.
