20 Jun Victory for Grace McHugh in the 1.35m in Jag
Jag Equestrian played host to the fourth round of the Mervue Equine Leinster Summer Tour, with good numbers being recorded on the day.
1.35m
Leading the victory lap in the 1.35m division was Grace McHugh and Carousel Gold when she clocked the winning round of clear in 49.06. Owned by Rosemary Reynolds and bred by Knightfield Stud, the 11-year-old mare is by Caricello and out of the Colourfield sired dam, Beechfield Erkindale. This combination got valuable experience at the start of the year as they competed in the CSI 1* in Vejer de la Frontera, recording a fourth and sixth place at 1.30m level.
In total 25 went to post in what resulted in a four way jump-off and just one double clear round.
Ruairí Aylward also put in a very fast round with Clonagoose Sky Bouncer, clocking 49.66, but four faults would mean that he had to settle for second place. Owned by James Kavanagh and bred by Michael Kavanagh, the eight-year-old mare is by Killinick Bouncer and is out of the Scribano sired dam, Laura Dubh.
Mark Tracy also had one on the ground with Beech Hill Tayla Blue in a time of 51.76 for third place. Owned and bred by Mark’s wife Heike, the 11-year-old mare is by Bonmahon Master Blue and is out of the Temple Clover sired dam, Loughnatousa Ruby.
Joyce Veld and the Miley Dunning owned Corraghoe Bounce came home carrying eight faults in a time of 48.60 for eventual fourth. Teh 11-year-old mare is by Lux Z and is out of the Cruising sired dam, Corraghoe Tiger.
Grace McHugh took another share of the prize fund when she was fastest of the four faulters in the first round with Berlios Van De Kapel in 76.20. Owned by GMH Sporthorses, the 17 year-old mare is by Quasimodo Z and is out of Superior Van De Kapel.
Derek McConnell also failed to make the jump-off with the seven-year-old Sirana Cornet Z, but a fast four fault round in 76.33 saw him slot into tenth place.Owned by Sorcha Hennessy, the mare is by Sir Obolensky 2 and is out of the Inshallah De Muze sired dam, Historie. This combination recently claimed third place in the 1.30m seven-year-old classic qualifier last month.
1.20m
Putting his first points on the 1.20m board was Darryl Walker when he delivered the winning round of clear in 25.03 with My Greenfort Princess. Owned by Marek Starzak, the nine-year old mare was bred by Patrick O’ Toole and is by Ricardo Z and out of Soulina.
Junior rider Matthew Farrell also kept all the poles in place with LKD Mini Q, in 27.59 for second place. Following closely behind was Jim Donohoe and Ballyluskey Viv, who came home clear in 27.97. Junior rider Jack Murphy partnered Valerie O’Reilly’s Ballinteskin Gala to a clear in 29.49 for eventual fourth. Little separated the next placing as Eoghan Murphy and the seven-year-old Ladies Intuition came home with nothing to add in 30.03. Completing the top six was Julie O’ Sullivan Gallagher riding her own eight-year-old, Lux Lyk Foxrock, clear in 30.83.
1.10m
In the 1.10m division four of the top slots were filled by amateur riders. Taking the win was AA category rider Lisa Doyle. Riding Corland’s Clipper she was fastest of 20 double clears in 28.81.
Currently leading this division, amateur rider Marie Hartley (AA) and Nikita Van Het Heidenhof took the runner-up spot when they came home in a time of 28.84.Not content with the runner-up spot, Hartley took third place with Scarthill Vendi, when they crossed the line in 28.84. Kilkenny’s Brona Keane and Quality Diamond slotted into fourth place when clear in 31.54. A clear from amateur rider Grainne Alexander and Cheeky Blonde in 33.12 saw her take fifth place. Junior rider Zoe Penfold and CSF Olympic You Too was less than a second behind in 33.66 for sixth place.
