19 Jul Athlone rider Francis Derwin takes the win in Maryville
Francis Derwin Jnr rode to victory in the 1.40m GAIN Alltech National Grand Prix at Maryville today. Riding Flexi K he delivered the winning round of clear in 38.57 seconds. A total of 22 went to post in the €4,000 class and from those eight booked their place in the jump-off.
Owned by Francis Derwin, the 10-year-old gelding was bred by Knightfield Stud and is by Flexabill and is out of the Luidam sired mare Deeply Dippy. This is a new mount for Derwin as the gelding was previously ridden by Ethen Ahearne. Under Derwin’s command they made their first appearance on the national circuit, at the young rider qualifiers at the end of June.
Taking the runner-up space was Aimee Barry and Garrydruig Limoncello when clear in 39.17. Owned by Joe Barry and bred by Geri McGeoghan-Santry, Garryndruig Limoncello is
a ten-year-old mare, by Amaretto Darco and is out of the Cruising sired dam,
Garryndruig Cruising Akademi. Bought from Fergal Harrison in 2020, the
combination has clocked up a series of good results since the last year, which
included a win in the 1.30m Power and Speed in Cavan November show, along with
the win in the Welcome Stakes. They also recorded wins in the TRM Showjumpers Club Spring Tour. More recently they won the 1.30m two phase in National Balmoral.
Derwin claimed another place in the line-up, slotting into third with the eight-year-old Parvati AEG, when they kept all the poles in place in a time of 39.81. Owned by Francis Derwin the Belgian warmblood mare is by Arezzo VDL and is out of the Darco sired dam, Sabrienne.
Sven Hadley added to his leaderboard tally as he took fourth place with Fabuleu Vd Watertoren. Owned by Carroll Produce, the 12-year-old gelding is by Master Blue and out of Uchinga Hero.
Abbie Sweetnam was the last of the double clears with Cornetiena Fz in a time of 51.32 for fifth place. Owned by Cathal Mcmunn and Carole Reape, the eight-year-old mare is by Cornets Diamond and is out of Cantlena FZ.
Madeline Roberts Allen and her own Celah Sue De Rialfo Z put in a very fast time of 40.96, but it came at a price as she had one on the floor and had to settle for sixth place. The 12-year-old mare is by Coupe De Coeur and is out of Olala.
