09 May Win for Carey in 2nd leg of Mervue Equine LST at Barnadown in Co Wexford on Saturday.
Kilkenny young rider Phillip Carey claimed the second round of the Mervue Equine Leinster Summer Tour at Barnadown in Co Wexford on Saturday.
Carey piloted the 16-year-old gelding CTS Peanuts to victory, posting the fastest double clear round of 32.13 seconds in a competition that attracted 53 entries.
It was a Kilkenny one-two, with Ger O’Neill finishing as runner-up aboard The Hurricane, just over two tenths of a second slower than Carey. Waterford’s Francis Connors slotted into third with Capital Cruis, while John Floody grabbed fourth spot with Ballyknock Diamond.
There was a tie for fifth place, when Stephen Murphy riding Carrenroe Limited Edition and Thom Keane aboard Delano W, both stopped the clock in 33.94 seconds.

The leading young rider in the Mervue Equine LST will receive a weeks training with accommodation, travel and food from Olympic Bronze Medalist, Cian O’Connor.
The Mervue Equine LST now moves to Ravensdale Lodge in Co Louth for the third round of the series on Sunday May 22nd.
