02 Sep MOLONEY TAKES THE 1.35M MERVUE EQUINE LEINSTER SUMMER TOUR 2019
Following a series of consistent results, Kilkenny’s Eddie Moloney and Cruiserath Flexianna took
home the 1.35m Mervue Equine Leinster Summer Tour yesterday at the Irish Breeders Classic (31
August). Along with the title, Moloney also took home €2,000 for his efforts. Taking the runner-up
position and €1,000 was John Floody and BML Cosmopolitan Dandy. Last week’s winner at Iverk
and before this at Bannow and Rathangan, Patrick Hickey and Quandurina took the leading young
rider prize. As the winner, Hickey won a training Bursary with Bertram Allan at his yard in
Germany. Also, a winner at Iverk, the leading pro-am and winner of the Ian Fearon Bursary, was
Declan Mc Evoy.
As expected, the final round came down to the wire with the top seven delivering clear rounds
within 37 seconds. It was also neck and neck with only eight points separating Moloney and
Floody.
Taking the win was Captain Geoff Curran and Dowth Hall, when they clocked 31.69 seconds. Last
year’s champion, Paddy O’ Donnell was hot on the winner’s heels, when he crossed the line with
Minority Report in 32.44, for second place. Thomas Foley and Kingsborough Verdiva were less
than a second behind in 33.17 for third. Emer Kavanagh and MHS Tamara, also answered all the
questions, but in a slower time of 34.19 for eventual fourth. Slotting into fifth was Francis Connors
and Clarabelle, who clocked 35.31.
Speaking after the final, Maureen Bagnall of the SJI said; “It was another very successful league
and the final saw some of the top combinations in action. The league has seen an increase in
numbers in all legs, which is great for the tour. I would like to thank our sponsors Mervue Equine,
Ian Fearon, Bertram Allen and for the riders for supporting the tour.
