Aachen sees another win for Bertram Allen
Aachen sees another win for Bertram Allen 31 May 2015, 20:36 IRELAND’S Bertram Allen was last to go in today’s (Sunday) Prize of Bitburger Brewery speed class in Aachen, Germany, riding Quiet Easy 4 and snatching the win with a faultless round. Wexford-born Allen and the 11 year-old chestnut gelding’s turn of speed in the 34-strong class relegated Germany’s leader Mario Stevens and Baloubet to second place with a round that was 0.14 seconds faster.
The Irish rider collected 6,250 euro for his win. Allen had already won Saturday’s Jump and Drive competition at Aachen with Australian partner Boyd Exell, but his luck did not hold in this afternoon’s One Million Euro Aachen Grand Prix, where he faulted twice with Molly Malone V in the first round, adding a time fault to finish on nine faults.
Fellow Irish rider Denis Lynch also had an uncharacteristically poor first round with Abbervail van het Dingeshof, collecting a total of 16 faults. The 330,000 euro Rolex Grand Prix first prize went to the double clear round of Britain’s Scott Brash and the gelding Hello Sanctos.
